If you want
your children to be intelligent, read them fairy tales. If you want them to be
more intelligent, read them more fairy tales.”

The book
that I enjoyed as a child is Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham. The
reason why I chose this book is because of the main character, Sam I am. Sam I am is trying to persuade his friend to
try something new. While doing so, the two travel to different places,
using various means of transportation, and meet interesting characters
along the way. By the end of the book, Sam
I am is greatly surprised to see his friend eating the green eggs and ham.
My second
year as a teacher I had this little shy boy in my class who always looked
sad. At the beginning of the school year, the little shy boy never played
with anyone and was withdrawn from his peers. After some time he opened
up to me and I discovered that his mother was very sick. In order to
cheer him up, we often made colorful cards and creative crafts for his
mom. It's saddens me to say that his mother expired before the
school year was up. I attended the
funeral and the little boy was so surprised to see me there. It has been
over 10 years since he was a student in my classroom. But I am happy to say that even to this day,
we still keep in touch.
That's such a touching story Rhonda you really are a great teacher. I loved how you created crafts for the little boy's mother to comfort him :) I also love the fact that you still kept in touch after all this time!
ReplyDeleteP.S. I also enjoyed the book Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham it's a really nice story
Wow, I was really moved by this story. I am so happy to hear that you touched this child's life in such a way. I know it meant a lot to him for you to connect with him. Often shy children go unnoticed and are written off. I never like to see that. I'm glad you reached him and that you two are still in touch. His connection with you will continue to be very healing for him and impact him positively into his adult life I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteI read to my daughter while she was in my womb, i read a book filled with fairy tales i would like to think that albert einstein was right, my daughter is very bright and intelligent. I will definitely keep reading to her. Also, it is amazing what impact you can have on a child's life with what you can bring in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very touch story. The gift you and he made for his mother must have meant a lot to the both of them. I am a firm believer that God puts people in your life your a reason and a season. You were there to give him the support he needed at the time. That is a wonderful thing you did for him and his family.
