The information that seemed particularly relevant to my
current professional development is the way that Save the Children is trying to
raise money for the children and families in South Sudan because of famine. The issue that I found to be controversial is
the fact that money needed in order to get resources. Pete Walsh, Save the Children’s Country
Director in South Sudan, expressed that “We urgently need to raise funds to
provide families with lifesaving food supplements…They need help and if we wait
any longer, I fear all hope will be lost.” When Mr. Walsh stated that the
organization needs to quickly raise money to help people in South Sudan, that
statement added to my understanding of how economists is needed. Other insights that I got from this website
is that donating money can have such a positive outcome for many children and
their families.
